Termites

For most of us, our homes are the largest investment we make in our lives. Finding out that your home has termites is not a pleasant surprise. You typically can't see them, you can't hear them, and usually only a trained inspector can find initial signs of a termite infestation. Only when they swarm or they have caused enough damage for visible evidence will most structure owners be made aware of their presence. Many times they are confused with ants. It takes specialized equipment and experts that have the necessary knowledge to provide proper control strategies.

Termites can cause extensive damage if they go undetected. More than 2 million homes require termite treatments each year. More than 600,000 U.S. homes suffer termite damage totaling over $2.5 billion annually. That is more damage than is caused by all fires, storms and earthquakes combined.

There are more than 2,000 species of termites. Only about 70 species are frequent enough invaders of our property to be called pests. The most damaging are roughly 20 species we call "subterranean" termites because of their nesting and foraging habits. Only one specie is native to North Carolina, the Eastern Subterranean Termite.
